Taraporewala Aquarium, Mumbai
Taraporewala Aquarium in Mumbai (formerly Bombay) at D.B.Marg is considered as one of the best aquariums in India. It started functioning in 1951. Mr. Taraporewala was a parsi philanthropist who took the initiative for the formation of this aquarium. It is now maintained by the Government of Maharashtra.
The aquarium has a good collection of over 100 species of marine and freshwater fishes including sharks and turtles. Some rare species are also exhibited which have been brought from different islands.
Work is under progress to develop this aquarium into an underwater oceanarium. Then visitors can have an underwater sea walk.
People can visit this aquarium between 11 am and 8 pm. Photography inside the aquarium is strictly prohibited. The aquarium remains closed on Mondays.
