Powai Lake, Mumbai
Powai Lake is an artificial lake and is situated in the northern suburb of Mumbai (Bombay). It is located towards the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. This beautiful lake was made by Englishmen in 1890, and provides extra charm to Mumbai city.
It obtained the name after Framaji Kavasji Powai Estate, which belonged to a Parsi merchant. Earlier this lake served as the source of drinking water for Mumbaikars (the people in Mumbai).
But now it has changed because the water in the lake is contaminated. This is a nice place away from the rush of the city. The cool ambience in this picnic spot attracts many tourists throughout the year.
