Mahakali Caves, Mumbai
Mahakali Caves in Mumbai (formerly Bombay) are some of the oldest buddhist caves in India. They are around five thousand years old. The caves are carved out of solid black basalt rock. The nearby road that connects the caves with the Andheri-Kurla Road is called Mahakali Caves Road.
The Government of Maharashtra has encroached upon the caves for road cutting. Today the caves are in danger. People who lived near this place have been shifted to other places. The caves located in the hill overlook Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road.
