Daulatabad Fort in Maharashtra
Daulatabad is a 14th century fort city atop a cone-shaped hill situated in the state of Maharashtra in India. The history of the fort is quite interesting. Several powerful dynasties, including the Yadavas, the Khiljis, the Tughlaqs, the Bahamanis and the Mughals had ruled this fort city.
However, the glory of the fort was raised when it was made the capital of the Tughlaq dynasty during the reign of Muhammed bin Tughlaq. Tughlaq even forcibly moved the entire population of Delhi to Daulatabad, only to return after two years when the newly found capital was found scarce in water. The fort is well protected with walls and gateways.
