Bibi-ka-Maqbara, the mini Taj Mahal at Aurangabad
Bibi-ka-Maqbara, located at Aurangabad in Maharashtra state is the burial place of Aurangzeb's first wife, Rabia-ud-Durrani. The monument here is an imitation of the Taj Mahal at Agra. This mausoleum is also termed as 'poor man's Taj Mahal' owing to it being a poor replica of the Taj.
The Bibi-Ka-Maqbara is made mostly of sandstone and has plastered walls and a marble dome. Bibi Ka Maqbara is known as the South Indian Taj. The interior decoration has nothing comparable with the great architectural wonder at Agra. But Bibi-ka-Maqbara has its own splendour and grace when compared as a monument. It is considered as a fine piece of Mughul architecture in the Deccan region.
