Babulnath Temple in Mumbai
Babulnath Temple in Mumbai (Bombay) is considered to be one of the older temples in India. It was built in 1780 and is situated at the tip of Marine Drive. People in Maharashtra are extremely devoted to Babulnath otherwise known as Lord Shiva.
They believe Lord Shiva is present in this place in the form of Babul trees. Thousands of devotees visit this temple praying for their prosperity, happiness and peace. They offer milk and flowers over the ‘Shivling’ which symbolically represents Lord Shiva’s head.
During Shivaratri special rituals are conducted here with the mantra “Om Nama Shivaya”. The temple architecture resembles Mount Kailas where the almighty is situated.
