Udayagiri Caves near Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh

Udayagiri caves located in Vidisha district of Madhya Pradesh state, India, are archaeological caves under the care of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The caves have utmost importance for the history of India and the Gupta Empire (4th-5th Century AD). Next to the River Beas, Udayagiri consists of a substantial U-shaped plateau. This historically significant place is located around 13 km from the Buddhist site of Sanchi.
