Tomb of Muhammad Ghaus
The video features the mausoleum of Muhammad Ghaus known as Muhammad Ghaus Maqbara (Maqbara is an Arabic word for mausoleum), situated at Gwalior in the State of Madhya Pradesh, India. The 16th century Sufi Saint Hazrat Muhammad Ghaus occupies an important position in the history of Mughal India. He is said to have had great influence over Mughal emperors like Babur and Humayun.
The work on the mausoleum took 38 years to complete. It was built during the reign of Emperor Akbar under the guidance of Muhammad Ghaus’ son and the emperor himself. Features of Mughal architecture are visible in the mausoleum in its hexagonal pillars, screens and in the pierced stone techniques. The Maqbara is now a pilgrim centre for both Hindus and Muslims.
