Shipra River at Ujjain
A sacred river for the Hindus, the Shipra or Kshipra River, flows through the holy land of Ujjain in the State of Madhya Pradesh, India. Ujjain is an ancient city known for Kumbh Mela, a mass pilgrimage of the Hindus, held once in every 12 years.
As per belief, devotees take a holy dip in the Shipra river to wash off their sins. There are over hundred shrines on the banks of this sacred river and the Maa Kali Temple is one of them, which holds some historic significance. Legend says that Kalidasa, the great Sanskrit poet of India, used to worship the mother goddess of this Kalika temple.
