Story of a brave prince
Hardol Singh’s is one of the most revered names in the history of Orchha, Madhya Pradesh. The gallant son of King Vir Singh, he was dear to his subjects. After the death of the King, Hardol Singh let his less able elder siblings to ascend the throne. However, the brothers were jealous of the talented, courageous and witty Hardol.
Orchha felt shattered when the Mughals captured the city defeating the army under Jujhar, the King. The defiant Hardol organized an army under him and captured Orchha back, by defeating the Mughal army. Following this, he was accepted whole heatedly as the new monarch of Orchha.
However, the happiness did not last long. The jealous siblings, with the help of the Mughal empire, succeeded in poisoning the prince. The story of Hardol Singh has become a legend in Orchha and even now, there are many people reaching his Samadhi (final resting place) to offer tribute to the valiant prince the city has ever seen.
