Chausath Yogini Temple at Jabalpur Madhya Pradesh
Dedicated to Goddess Durga, the Chausath Yogini temple complex is an open sky, circular courtyard atop a hill near Marble Rocks in Jabalpur, State of Madhya Pradesh, India. The temple is a testimony of the ancient dynasties that ruled Jabalpur, depicting a row of idols, which are attendants of Goddess Durga called yogini’s and hence the name Yogini Temple. The idols of yogini’s are delicately carved and they demonstrate stunning iconography, despite being blemished by the Mughal invaders.
Among sixty-four statues, most of them in this temple complex have been plundered. A shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva is situated in the center. One can get a panoramic view of the gorge created by River Narmada and the surrounding landscape from the courtyard.
