Lakshmi Bai, the Rani of Jhansi was the queen of the Maratha-ruled princely state of Jhansi situated in the north India. One of the leading figures of the Revolt of 1857 in India, she was an icon of resistance to the rule of the British East India Company in the sub-continent.
