Nandi Temple at Khjauraho in Madhya Pradesh
The shrine of Nandi is part of the Visvanatha temple in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh. It enshrines a gigantic finely polished statue of Nandi, the mythological bull vehicle of Lord Shiva.
The shrine, a square pavilion rests on 12 pillars, with a shallow two-pillared bay projecting from the middle of each side. It has a pyramidal roof of receding tiers with an almost plain circular ceiling of overlapping courses.
The Khajuraho group of temples has been listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List for their outstanding universal value and human creative genius.
