Qurratulain Hyder, Urdu novelist
Qurratulain Hyder (20th January 1926 – 21st August 2007) was one of the most celebrated Urdu novelists and short story writer. Known in the name "Ainee Apa" among friends and admirers she was an outstanding writer in Urdu literature. She was also a good translator who had translated her own works into English and other languages. She has received Jnanpith in 1989.
Aag Ka Duniya (River of Fire) her greatest work in both Urdu and English literature. It tells us the story that moves from the fourth century BC to the post-Independence period in India and Pakistan, pausing at the many crucial epochs of history.
Patjhar ki Awaz (The Voice of Autumn), Raushni ki Raftar (The Speed of Light), Aakhir-e-Shab ke Hamsafar (Travellers Unto the Night), Chaye ke Bagh (Tea Plantations), Kar e Jahan Daraz Hai (The Work of the World Goes On) and Bi-Chuhiya (Little Miss Mouse) are her major works.
