Srilal Shukla, Hindi writer
Srilal Shukla, born on 31st December 1925 in Uttar Pradesh state, is an eminent Hindi novelist and a satirist. Shukla in his works throws light on the falling moral values of the Indian society in the post independence era. Through his satirical writings he tried to focus the negative aspects of life in both rural and urban Uttar Pradesh.
In Raag Darbari, his latest novel he tries to show the sordidness and pettiness of the everyday life of rural Uttar Pradesh. Makaan, Sooni Ghaati Ka Sooraj, Pehla Padaav, Agyatvas, and Bisrampur Ka Sant are his other noted works.
He has received the Sahitya Akademi Award for his novel Raag Darbari and he also received the Padma Bhushan in 2008.
