Nirmal Verma, Hindi Writer
Nirmal Verma (3rd April 1929 – 25th October 2005) was a well known Hindi writer, activist and novelist of India. He is considered to be one of the pioneers of the Nayi Kahani (New Story) literary movement in Hindi literature. He was born at Shimla in Himachal Pradesh state, India.
He has always managed to weave an ambience of ideas that offer glimpses of the eclipsed man-woman relationship sans sentimental hypocrisy in his writings. He has been awarded the Janapith in 1999 and Padma Bhusan in 2005 and the Sahitya Akademi fellowship for his lifetime achievement in 2005.
Parinde (Birds), Andhere Mein, Dedh Inch Upar, and Kavve Aur Kala Pani – short stories and Antima Aranya (The Last Wilderness) – novel are his major contributions to literature.
