Dr. Dharamvir Bharati, Hindi playwright
Dr. Dharamvir Bharati (25th December 1926 – 4th September 1997) was one of the renowned Hindi modernist poet, playwright, novelist and a social thinker of India. Born in Allahabad he was awarded by Padma Shree in 1972. He was the Chief - Editor of Dharmayug, a popular Hindi magazine.
His novel Gunaho Ka Devta is considered as an evergreen classic in Hindi literature, which throws light to the various trappings of love in urban middle-class, pre-independence India. His novel Suraj Ka Satvan Ghodha (The Seventh Steed of the Sun) was made into a national award winning film of the same name by Shyam Benegal.
Andha Yug, a drama set immediately after the Mahabharata war is another greater contribution of Dr. Bharati.
