Chungidi or Chungari Saree
Madurai, a district in the State of Tamilnadu in India is famous for cotton handloom textiles and spinning mills. It is also widely known for its Chungidi or Chungari sarees.
These saris are woven in unbleached cotton with a narrow zari border. The end pieces and the borders are then dyed in contrasting colours. The body of the Chungidi saree is filled with dots and more recently floral patterns, which are drawn with a mixture of cow dung and other herbs and resist dyed.
