Banaras silk saree of India
Banaras silk sarees represents the finest of India’s fabled weaving traditions. Fabricated in the holy city of Banaras or Varanasi in the State of Uttar Pradesh, India, Banaras silk sarees came to be popular during the time of the Mughal reign in India.
Ranked as one of the finest traditional sarees for women, these saris are famous for their colourful dyeing of silk fabric. Coming in all shades, the designs of Banaras sarees have the essence of the traditional folk art. These sarees are quite heavy due to their rich embroidery.
Customarily Banaras sarees were woven in silk but today they are woven in a variety of fabrics. Nowadays one can buy Banaras sarees made of pure silk or katan; organza with golden thread (zari) work and also in georgette.
