Vettakkorumakan temple, Thilanoor
Kerala is home to many rural temples which stand apart with its unique traditions and rituals. Kannur, the northern district, hosts many such village shrines with a vibrant cultural as well as religious life about it. One such temple is Sree Vettakkorumakan temple at Thilanoor.
The temple is a tiled one with simple architectural styles. The Kalam drawing ritual held here attracts many devotees from far and near.
Vettakkorumakan, conceived to be the hunter deity, is mythologically the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. In northern Kerala, there are many village shrines called Kottam, dedicated to this fierce deity.
