Thiruvambadi temple - a leading participant of Thrissur Pooram
Leading the Thrissur Pooram festivities in Kerala, South India and competing with each other to excel are the two temples of Thiruvambadi and Paramekkavu. The main deity of Thiruvambadi is Lord Krisha, though the Goddess Devi is also given importance here.
On the main day of the Thrissur Pooram a colorful procession makes its way from Thiruvambadi to the Vadakkumnathan temple where most of the festivities take place. In this procession involving elephants and pageants and parasols, known as madathilvaravu, replicas of the main idols of the temple are carried to the venue of the festival.
