Effigies of Pandavas, Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple, Thiruvananthapuram
Featured in this video are the huge effigies of the Pandavas placed in front of the temple premises during the Painkuni festival, one of the two festivals which are celebrated in Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple at East fort in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The other one is the Alpassi festival.
The Painkuni festival, held during the month March / April, which had been neglected for some time was revived during the rule of Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma. During this festival effigies of the Pandavas are placed in front of the temple, for legend has it that the Pandavas during their period of the wandering incognito resided for some time in Ananthan kadu situated near the temple premises.
