Cheraman Juma Masjid, Kodungalloor
Cheraman Juma Masjid, located in Methala village at Kodungalloor Taluk in Thrissur district is the first mosque in India where Juma prayers are offered. This mosque is associated with Cheraman Perumal, the last Chera king of Kerala, who went to Mecca and converted to Islam religion. It was in his interest that an ancient temple was handed over to build this Juma Masjid and it heralded the spread of Islam religion in Kerala. The mosque is built in traditional Hindu style of architecture.
