Valliyoorkkavu Festival, Wayanad
Set amidst hilly terrains of Wayanad district of Kerala, India, the Valliyoorkkavu Bhagavathi temple dedicated to the Mother Goddess is worshipped here in three principal forms - Vana Durga, Bhadrakali and Jala Durga. The temple is famed for its annual arattu festival. The temple is located about 3 km from Mananthavadi town and is known for its serene and tranquil environment.
During the annual festival (which falls in month of January/February), the tribal people of Wayanad perform a dance that is accompanied by percussion instruments. Besides, the traditional ritual art of kalamezhuthu and a wide range of folk art forms are also performed.
