Polishing Snake Boat, Alappuzha

This video features oarsmen polishing a Snake Boat or Chundan Vallam before participating in the Nehru Trophy boat race held on the Punnamada Lake, Alappuzha in Kerala, every year. Snake Boats are popular as they are the main attractions in the grand regatta.

The hulls of the boats, which are participating in the race are well-polished before the race. The belly of the snake boat is heated using burning coconut shells.
