Methan Mani in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), one of the old cities in Kerala state is famous for its historical significance. This video presents the Methan Mani (clock tower) a landmark in Thiruvananthapuram which was a marvelous creation of that time.
It is said to have been installed in 1840 during the reign of Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma. It stands next to the famous Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple, East Fort, Trivandrum. The Methan Mani is a unique creation in which there is the face of a bearded man with moustache and two rams on either side of his cheeks placed above the dial.
The clock is still working and strikes each hour everyday. When the face opens its mouth and the rams hit its cheeks to sound the gong. Tourists from various part of the country get attracted by this clock tower.
