Getting ready for the regatta
The Nehru Trophy boat race on the Punnamada backwater in Alappuzha is one of the finest boat races in Kerala. It is held on the second Saturday of August, every year. The Nehru Trophy boat race is very popular and attracts locals as well as travelers from around the world.
The boat race is organized to commemorate Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s visit to Alappuzha in 1952. Seen in this video are the oarsmen and a snake boat getting ready for the grand regatta after giving finishing touches to the boat.
