Over The Hills and Far Away
“Five little ducks went swimming one day, over the hills and far away.” In the popular nursery rhyme only five ducks went for a swim, but in this delightful video, we see hundreds of ducks enjoying the cool refreshment of river water. Ducks waddling in and over paddy fields is a regular sight for anyone visiting the farm lands of Kuttanad in the Alappuzha district of Kerala since duck farming is a popular livelihood for farmers in this region.
The area has the lowest altitude in India and its vast landscape is spread across three districts of the state. This is one of the few areas in the world where farming is carried out below sea level. Kuttanad is also a picturesque place to visit for, in addition to the fertile paddy fields that earn it the nickname of “rice bowl of Kerala,” the beautiful Kerala backwaters beckon to visitors.
