Training Session prior to Nehru Trophy boat race
Featured in this video is the training session of a Snake Boat or Chundan Vallam race held on the Punnamada backwater in Alappuzha, Kerala, India. The training is part of the annual Nehru Trophy boat race, which is one of the most popular boat races in Kerala. It is held on the second Saturday of August, every year.
The history of the race is connected to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s visit to Alappuzha in 1952. It was in honour of Nehru that the first race was conducted. Following his visit, Nehru donated a silver trophy for the winners of this highly competitive race.
