Bekal fort and surroundings
Built by Sivappa Naik of Ikkeri dynasty in the seventeenth century, Bakel fort at Kasargod district, Kerala, is a historical marvel. Located near the Bekal beach, this fort is the best preserved one of Kerala. The fort, a circular imposing structure of laterite rising 130 ft. above sea level, stands on a 35 acre headland that runs into the Arabian sea. Just outside the fort there is a mosque built by Tipu Sultan of Mysore. At the entrance is the Anjaneya temple, dedicated to Sree Hanuman. Due to its historic relevance, the fort is controlled by the Archaeological Survey of India
