A Night in the backwaters at Kuttanad
Kuttanadu is a rural place situated below sea level. This region comes under Alappuzha, Kottayam and Pathnamthitta districts of Kerala, India. A major centre for paddy cultivation, Kuttanadu was known as the ‘Rice bowl of Kerala’. Inland fishing and agriculture are the major activities in Kuttanadu, crisscrossed with rivers and surrounded by backwaters. Being a state with total literacy, one can see villagers reading newspapers in every nook and corner even while traveling on country boats!!
