Toddy Tapping in Kerala
Toddy, locally known as kallu is an alcoholic beverage in Kerala, extracted from palm or coconut trees. Featured in this video is a toddy tapper busy at his work.
Usually toddy is tapped by a toddy tapper, who is traditionally trained in the work. The shoot of the palm is sliced near its tip and the cut end is covered with a pot. It is normally an evening business and by the next morning, the pot will be full of white frothy toddy.
