Running with the burden of love
Carrying one’s better-half on shoulder and win a race would be a novel way to start the New Year; and of course yet another opportunity to underscore mutual love. And it proved to be so, during the wife-carrying race organized by Ecorun India on January 1, 2011 at the Shankhumugham beach in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala, south India.
The 51 m wife-carrying race held on the sandy beach received enthusiastic response from onlookers as well as participants." The event was held to create awareness on health and environment matters and to promote regular exercise among citizens" Says Dr. George Thomas a Mathematician from Kerala working in the US and Canada and the founder of Ecorun India.
Said to have originated in Finland, the wife-lugging event is quite popular in countries like Finland, Estonia and in North America.
