Football practice at Jawahar Stadium, Kannur
Municipal Jawahar Stadium in Kannur, Kerala, is one of the prominent places of football practising in the country. Kannur district is proud of its legacy of football, which has contributed players who represented India in tournaments held in countries like the erstwhile USSR and Singapore. Even now, football is an important item in Kannur’s sports menu. The stadium has all the facilities to nurture aspiring football players.
Many state and national tournaments are held here. In April 2007, the stadium hosted the first E.K Nayanar Memorial Gold Cup football tournament, organized in memory of Mr. E.K. Nayanar, the late Chief Minister of Kerala. This international tournament saw teams like Ghana and Pakistan competing with national teams
