Churidar and Pants and Shirt
Churidar is one of the most recent additions to the wardrobe of a Keralite woman. This dress of northern Indian origin has now become the favourite of the womenfolk of Kerala.
Popular in South Asian countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh, Churidar consists of three pieces of clothing. The three quarter long tunic worn as the top is called Kameez in northern Indian parlance.
Loose pantaloons are tied to the waist and are called Salwar. An unstitched length of clothing called Duppatta is also part of the attire. Duppatta is normally wound loosely over the shoulders.
Pants and shirt have now become a favourite combination of Keralite men. It was popularised by the urban, educated and young generation of Kerala and was soon accepted even by the rural lot.
Pants are now regarded as a convenient, casual outfit. In company with a shirt, it gives the wardrobe of a Keralite man a universal ambience.
