Guruvayoor Kannan - An Elephant in Kerala
Guruvayoor - the abode of lord Krishna (one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu), is a popular shrine in Kerala state, India. Located in Thrissur - the cultural capital of Kerala, Guruvayoor temple is one of the most important places of worship for Hindus.
Situated a few kilometers from the temple is the Anakkotta (the elephant camp) also known as Punathurkotta. This is a 10 acre camp and is home to around 60 jumbos. Shown here is Guruvayoor Kannan, one of the athletic inmates in the camp who is seven times winner of the elephant race (Anayottam) held at the temple.
