Statue of Velu Thampi Dalawa
Velayudhan Chempakaraman Thampi better known as Velu Thampi Dalawa was the Prime Minister of the Indian kingdom of Travancore during the reign of His Highness Maharajah Bala Rama Varma Kulasekhara Perumal (1802 and 1809).
Born in the village of Kalkulam at Thalakulam Valiyaveedu, Nagercoil town in Tamilnadu, he is best known as the earliest individual to rebel against British East India Company's supremacy in India.
Featured in this video is the statue of the legend, Veluthampi Dalawa, in Mannadi, Pathanamthitta district of Kerala. Dalawa was caught by the Maharaja’s troop at this spot and as he did not wanted to die with their hands, so he committed suicide. Mannadi is located 13 kms from Adoor and 45 kms from Kollam.
