Niraputhari at Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple
‘Niraputhari’ is one of the rituals and practices associated with Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple. Featured in this video is the Niraputhari held at Padmanabhaswamy temple. Uthradam Tirunal Marthanda Varma and Aswathy Tirunal Gouri Lakshmi Bhai, the members of Travncore Royal Family were present during the ceremony.
In ancient times the rice required for the temple was cultivated in the near by ‘Putharikandam’ paddy fields. Even today this is undertaken as a ritual and paddy sheaves from these fields are given as offerings to the temple, and are received by the eldest member of the royal family. Niraputhari is the ritual offering of these sheaves to the Lord after certain rites in the mandapam of Padmatheerthakkulam pond.
