Nadanpattu - folk songs of Kerala

Nadanpattu is a series of folk songs sung in places like Alappuzha and Kuttanad during the time when saplings are planted in the fields.

Tha Nadanpattu somgs hummed by the local people narrate the tales of the land and the people. The songs are simple, lucid and highly expressive.

The toiling groups of peasants sing them toforget the monotony of their humdrum lives and to refresh themselves. They have been transmitted from one generaton to the next orally. The versions sung today show some linguistic changes.
