Mizhavu thayambaka - ethics of rhythm and beats
The sacred Mizhavu produces a mesmeric effect when played along with the percussion instrument Edakka and Thimila. The deft fingers of the musicians playing the Mizhavu fall on the leather at a brisk pace and produce an exciting effect of the beats and the rhythm.
In Kerala, Mizhavu and Edakka are played as accompanying instruments during the Koothu and Kutiyattam or Koodiyattam performances. The video shows that Mizhavu and Eddaka played independent of the Koothu and Kutiyattam performances also can be exciting – a true attention grabber.
