Athiraathram - An Ancient Vedic Ritual
The 3,100 year old vedic ritual of Athirathram, found in the ancient village of Panjal in Kerala, claims to impact the nature and human beings by endorsing universal brotherhood, peace, solidarity, prosperity, and spiritual enlightenment.
The Athiraathram ritual is considered to be one of the world’s oldest surviving rituals, although it has long been out of practice as the last Athiraathram was last performed 35 years ago. This is an elaborate and lengthy ritual as it takes 12 days for its completion. The purpose of this festival is to promote peace and harmony between human beings and nature.
