The eight-day long Uthralikkavu Pooram
Like many temple festivals of Kerala, South India, Uthralikkavu Pooram is celebrated with processions that have caparisoned elephants, temple orchestras including panchavadyam, fireworks, and many colorful pageants.
Uthralikavu Pooram is the annual festival of the Sree Ruthira Mahakalikavu temple at Wadakkancherry in the Thrissur district of Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali and the festival is hosted jointly by the people of three places, namely Kumaranellur, Enkakkad and Wadakkancherry (Vadakkancheri).
This festival is celebrated for eight days. The procession from the Lord Siva temple of the place to Uthralikkavu is very important and in olden days the Raja of Kochi (Cochin) used to participated in it with armed soldiers.
