The Thrissur Pooram procession
The Thrissur Pooram procession is one of the most spectacular among the festival processions of Kerala in South India. This spectacular festival noted for grand display of fireworks and exchange of colourful parasols take place in and around the Vadakkumnathan temple in Thrissur (Trichur).
Ten local temples, led by two traditionally leading temples viz. Paramekkavu and Thiruvambadi, participate in Thrissur Pooram. All processions carry their deities from their respective temples to converge into one grand procession, though the pride of place in the whole pageantry is retained by the two leading temples – Paramekkavu and Thiruvambadi, which vie with each other to excel in their displays.
This video shows the procession proceeding from one of the smaller temples named Neithalakkavu. The deity is carried ceremonially on a caparisoned elephant.
