The lit up inside of the Thiruvambadi temple
Thrissur pooram is the most imposing festival of Kerala in South India, in which nine temples participate. The most important ones among them are Paramekkavu and Thiruvambadi. In fact it is the competition between the two temples to excel in things like parasol display and illumination that gives the pooram much of its grandeur.
The main deities of the Thiruvambadi temple are Lord Krishna, and Bhagavathy the Goddess. On the main day of the Thrissur pooram, there is a grand procession known as madathil varavu from there to the Vadakkumnathan temple located in Thrissur (trichur) town, which is the venue of the festival.
This video shows the inner temple, beautifully lit by traditional oil lamps.
