Nehru Trophy Boat Race 2012
Nehru Trophy Boat Race is an annual event that splashes tremendous excitement to the canal bound towns of Alappuzha, known as the Venice of the East, in Kerala. Held on the sprawling Punnamada Lake, the popular Vallam Kali is celebrated to commemorate the visit of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of Independent India. In 2012, August 11 the boat race is celebrating its 60th anniversary. Being the race of Chundan Vallams (Snake Boats), the trophy is the replica of snake-boat in silver.
