Ilanjithara Melam - the percussion tempo
Thrissur Pooram is one of the top-notch festivals of Kerala in South India. It is a cultural event that is a big tourist attraction of the state.
This annual festival is held in the summer months at the Sree Vadakkumnathan Temple premises of Thrissur. There is a performance of traditional orchestra in the temple during the afternoon hours of the pooram day. This is known as the Ilanjithara Melam because it is conducted under the Ilanji tree. Ilanji, or Mimusops elengi, is a tropical tree with fragrant flowers.
