A festival as old as the place - Arattupuzha Pooram
Among the many poorams celebrated in Kerala, South India, round the year, Arattupuzha Pooram is one of the oldest.
Arattupuzha is a village situated in Thrissur District near the town of Thrissur. Arattupuzha pooram is celebrated at a famous temple of this village. The deity of this old temple is believed to be an embodiment of the divine potential of Guru Vasishta — the master of Lord Rama.
The whole celebration is a visual delight, with rows of caparisoned elephants and decorated venues and colorful pageants. The displays are accompanied by nagaswaram and panchavadyam, which is Kerala’s special temple orchestra of four percussion instruments and one wind instrument.
