Prawns Ilayada - a Malabari Seafood dish
Prawns Ilayada or Konchu Elayada or Chemmeen Ilayada, is a Malabari seafood dish noted for its delicious taste and different style of preparation. Malabar Cuisine, influenced by various cultures has a large number of both vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian dishes and also seafood dishes. Ingredients
Turmeric powder - ¼ tsp
Chilli powder – 1 ½ sp
Masala (cinnamon and clove) – to taste
Chopped onion (big)
Ginger – 2 tsp
Green chilli – 2 nos
Curry leaves
Salt - to taste
Coconut oil – 3 tsp
Vinegar – 2 tsp
Cleaned prawns – 250 g
Rice (Pachari) – 1/2 kg
How to cook the Prawns masala for Prawns Elayada?
Soak the rice well and then grind it to make the dough.
Take a pan and heat some oil and into it put some ginger, split green chillies and curry leaves and stir. Next, add chopped pieces of big onion and some salt and stir well. Put powders of turmeric and red chilli. Saute well. Next, add the prawns, little bit of vinegar and stir gently. Add some water. Continue stirring and mix the ingredients well. And also add some more salt.
How to prepare the Prawns Ada?
Take a piece of plantain leaf and spread a little bit of coconut oil on it. And from the prepared rice dough, take a fistful and press it down on the plantain leaf to take the shape of a disc.
Coming back to the cooked prawns, you may add some masala and stir well. Next, take some cooked prawns and place it on one half of the dough that you have already prepared. Fold the plantain leaf and after making sufficient numbers, steam them for about 15 minutes.
