Vishnumoorthy- the Warrior God
Vishunumoorthy is one of the most featured Theyyam figures in the Malabar area of Kerala. Believed to be another form of the Narasimha incarnation of Lord Vishnu, this warrior god is worshipped by the members of the Malaya community.
There are about 400 types of Theyyams in Kerala. This prismatic ritual art form is practiced to appease the gods or the ancestors. The word Theyyam is a corrupt form of Daivam, meaning God. This video clip is shot from Vaniyillam Someswari temple near Karivellur in Kannur district.
