Theyyam- Thayyil Wayanattu Kulavan Temple

The northern district of Kannur is remarkable for its village shrines, which dutifully safeguard the Theyyam tradition of Kerala. Sree Thayyil Vayanattu Kulavan temple at Kuruva is one such temple. The annual Vellaattam festival of this small village shrine is a grand affair.

Theyyam, the spectacular ritual art form, is an awe inspiring one as far as its costumes, presentation and the aura of devotion attached is concerned. There is hardly any such art forms, where the artist himself is conceived as the deity.

A variety of Theyyam performances will be featured in the festival of Sree Thayyil Wayanattu Kulavan temple. Some of them are Wayanattu Kulavan, Gulikan and Puliyoor Kannan.
